Jana Drakka Community Services
JDCS is our Outreach and Education branch. JDCS (Jana Drakka Community Services) is a separate, non-profit organization which provides a wide range of services to the community including support groups, workshops, classes and talks.
Jana’s community work is based in Harm Reduction Principles (link to basics of HR and poss. HRTC) - a way to meet everyone with complete acceptance and allows for a client-centered modality. Jana’s training includes a Degree in Education, Sociology and Psychology, E.S.L (English as a second language) certification and Advanced Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing training,
Jana has offered groups, workshops and lectures of many kinds and in many organizations including:
- Lyon and Martin Women’s Clinic – ongoing support group for HIV+ women.
- The AIDs Foundation – groups and workshops with the Speed Project;
- UCSF with Caregivers for those with Alzheimer’s and with the Memory and Aging Dept.;
- Community Housing Partnership - facilitating support groups for newly trained workers, and support groups for staff;
- Glide Church - group for Clinic Staff and meditation group;
- Hospitality House - mindfulness groups for clients;
- Mission Neighborhood Resource Center - Harm Reduction Support Groups, --- Zen Hospice - Ongoing Volunteer Training;
- Episcopal Community Center -Grief Support group.
Currently Jana facilitates an ongoing peer support group for the case managers at Tenderloin Housing Clinic where she runs a mindfulness group, grief/stress support group and gives one on one counseling to staff and clients.
This is simply an overview of Jana’s community services. Creativity and practicality are the marks of her work. A gentle blending of skills ancient and modern and a Scottish sense of humor combine to make Jana’s work unique and invaluable. From a day long retreat designed with you in mind to a dynamic two hour workshop our Community Services can help take the stress out of modern living at home and in the work place.
